Library Update

Extended Hours  Thanks to student differential tuition funding the library now opens at 7:30 a.m. during the week, and closes at 1 a.m.. Hours

Deliver to My Office Service  Faculty can now place a request to have circulating materials from the library delivered to their office.  In the library catalog, use “Place Request” to access this service.

Semester loans  Faculty and staff now receive a semester loan period for most regularly circulating library items as well as books requested through Universal Borrowing.  Multimedia items such as DVD's, videocassettes, and CMC textbooks circulate for 14-days.

Library Consultation Services  There are several ways to contact a librarian for help, and we are happy to come to your office.  Faculty and staff can arrange to have a consultation with a reference librarian in their office at a convenient time. The librarian can also assist with selecting and searching relevant electronic databases. "Librarians to Go" is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We also provide service via email (refdesk@uwrf.edu), phone (425-3343), and of course in person at the Reference Desk.

Library Instruction  Librarians meet with over 150 classes each year to teach library research techniques.  To schedule a session, please contact Brad Gee, Head of Reference and Instruction at x3552 or brad.gee@uwrf.edu.  He will coordinate the scheduling of your class with a librarian.

Thousands of new scholarly online journals  Last year, we purchased a number of new online resources with student differential tuition funding:  Elsevier Science Direct College Health and College Social Sciences Collections; Oxford online journals; Sage online journals; JSTOR Arts and Sciences IV and Biological Sciences collections; and the New York Times Historical archives.  Use the Find Journals link from the library web page to view the 15,000+ journals that we now offer in online and print formats.  You can find journals by title or by subject category. Resource Sharing  The UW-System is providing monetary support for a new document delivery program for faculty and student researchers.  In addition to regular interlibrary loan, the library  purchases articles from commercial suppliers.  Articles are often delivered electronically on the same day that you request them.  Differential tuition funding also allows the library to pay any fees associated with interlibrary loan for students.  Students can now access specialized materials without cost.  Interlibrary Loan.

Important, ongoing resource sharing programs include  Universal Borrowing and WorldCat.

SuperSearch  Search up to eight informational resources with one search or identify individual databases by title or subject.  Consult the guide to using SuperSearch to learn how to create customized sets of your favorite databases or save search results for future use. Tutorial.

Laptop Program  There are three Dell laptops and one Apple laptop available at the circulation desk for loan to faculty and staff. A laptop can be checked out for up to 7 days.  To reserve a laptop, contact the Circulation Desk at 715-425-3321 or by email at circulation@uwrf.edu FAQ link.

Course Reserves  The library continues our traditional course reserve service, and also offers an electronic reserve service.  Library staff will scan materials and make them electronically available to students.  Please allow a week for processing time when requesting this service. Area Research Center Transfer Service  The Wisconsin Historical Society, the University of Wisconsin System, and the Superior Public Library cooperate in a network of Area Research Centers located at UW campus libraries throughout the state, at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center and at the Superior Public Library. Each Area Research Center serves a specific geographic region. The UW-RF Center serves Pierce, St. Croix, Burnett and Polk Counties.  Records created in and focused on the region served by a particular ARC are housed permanently at the appropriate Center. A courier service allows members of the network to borrow collections housed elsewhere for use by their local patrons.

Minds@UW Institutional Repository  The library manages an online repository that serves as a “safe haven” for published and unpublished scholarly materials produced by the students, faculty and staff at UW-RF.  It is designed to capture, store, index, distribute and preserve the intellectual output of the University.  To learn more about archiving your materials, contact Heidi Southworth at x3924 or heidi.southworth@uwrf.edu. http://www.uwrf.edu/library/minds/welcome.php.
