Requesting Films from Kanopy

Kanopy is a streaming film site that specializes in documentaries, foreign films, and independent films.

Kanopy films are able to be requested by filling out a Purchase Request Form via the Kanopy website (link below).

Requests for Kanopy films are processed during standard campus office hours, 8:00- 4:30 on Mondays through Fridays. Requests are not monitored over the weekend or on holidays when campus is closed.

Please allow at least one business day (weekday/non-holiday) for your request to be processed.

Notes for Faculty Using Kanopy in Courses:

Please note that films are purchased as 1 year licenses and will need to be requested each semester to ensure continuing access. Access to the film begins on the day it is licensed/the purchase completes so it does not necessarily line up with the semester schedule.

If you have any Kanopy films listed in your syllabus, please email the titles and course information before the start of the semester to erm-cdl@uwrf.edu; we can repurchase the lease in advance to ensure a seamless transition between leases if the film is still available for repurchase.

Titles rotate out of the Kanopy collection frequently (much like other streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu); we cannot guarantee a film will be available every semester.

Finding, Using, and Sharing Kanopy Films

Kanopy has a link for each film for sharing purposes available via the "Share" link underneath the player/viewing area for each film.

Records for the individual movies are not currently available via searches in Search at UW.

Classroom use rights are already included in the license. Please contact the Library if you plan to use in a non-classroom setting to confirm that your planned use fits within our license agreement with Kanopy.

Our license includes study abroad programs but not students or faculty from other campuses (this is a campus-specific license, not a UW System one-we cannot use Kanopy content from other UW libraries and they cannot use ours). If you have questions about how this license applies to your course, please contact the Library.
