Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

This guide explains how to get materials from other libraries.

Placing Requests

Many articles in scholarly journals are available in Search@UW.  However, sometimes you will want an article that does not have a full text link. Or, you may have the citation to an article, but cannot locate the full text.  In these cases, you can order the article through Interlibrary Loan.

There are a couple of methods for requesting articles:

 1)  If you find an article in Search@UW that does not have fulltext, you can request it by clicking on the "Request a Copy" link located in the Get It tab of each item. After logging-in, the Article Form will appear with the fields already completed. (You may change or add any information in the request if you wish).

When you're finished, click  at the bottom of your screen.

 OR,

2) If you have a citation, you can log into ILLiad and manually type in the required fields after clicking 'Photocoy' under 'New Request' on the left side of your screen.

When the article has arrived (usually within 2-4 days), you will receive an email in your UWRF email account that details how to log in and retrieve the article.

Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
