Getting Started

This guide will help you identify the most important databases and services for locating information on music history topics.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Email Brad if you need help at any point during your research. Don't waste time floundering; I can meet with you or advise by e-mail.

Ask for help at the Research Help Desk, or by phone (715-425-3343), or email (

To find materials located at the Chalmer Davee Library (CDL), search the online catalog. This will search material that is PHYSICALLY located in the library (books, government documents, audio/visual materials).

The contents of books and articles are not searchable using the online catalog. You have to use SuperSearch to find full-text materials.

You can access our online scholarly databases from a remote location using your W-number and password. See off-campus access FAQ. If you are having trouble connecting from a remote location, here is an off-campus trouble-shooting guide.

To obtain a book or article CDL doesn't have, request it via Interlibrary Loan (ILL). In most cases, there is no charge for borrowed items or for e-articles. ILL books can be picked up and returned at the Circulation Desk.
