Music

Locations

The University Library houses various formats of musical materials, including: 

  • Reference books, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, indices, and bibliographies - located in the Music section on the second floor.
  • Books - located on both floors of the library. Most circulating books are on the second floor of the library.
  • Scores - located on the second floor of the library in the main stacks.  
  • Sound Recordings - CDs (compact discs) and LPs are located past the Circulation Desk on the main floor, in the AV Room.  
  • Videorecordings - DVDs are located past the Circulation Desk on the main floor, in the AV Room.

You can search for all materials using the Library Catalog.

The Library also provides the following facilities and services relating to music:

  • Computer Workstations  located on the main floor of the Library.
  • Copiers  - located past the Circulation Desk.  Copiers are now connected to the Papercut print managment system.
  • Microfilm Reader-Printers - located immediately before the Copy Room. 
  • Listening/Viewing Room - located along the edges of the AV Room.
  • Personal Audio Headsets - can be obtained at the Circulation Desk. 
  • Reference & Research Assistance - book a research help session with a Librarian.

LC Classifications

The University Library uses the Library of Congress Classification Scheme (LC) to determine the location of its materials.  The LC system is an alpha-numeric system.  This means that the call numbers contain letters and numbers.  The letters tell the user the general subject matter of the material; the numbers provide more specific information about the material.

M = Music or Scores

ML = Music Literature and/or Music History

MT = Music Theory and Pedagogy
