How do I find a book on a specific topic?

1. Find the link to NoveList K-8 (link is in this guide and the Databases A-Z page on the library homepage).

2. Use the main search box to type a subject (dogs, poetry, etc.)

3. Copy-paste the book title into Search at UW (the library website) to see if we have the book in our library or to request it from other libraries.

 

How can I find a book for a specific grade level?

1. Find the link to NoveList K-8 (link is in this guide and the Databases A-Z page on the library homepage).

2. Underneath the main search box at the top of the page there is a blue link called "Advanced Search." Click on it.

3. On the left side of the page, there is a box labeled "grade level." Click on the grade you want. Hold down the shift key and click again if you want more than one grade. Then go up to the main search box at the top of the page and search as usual. 

4. Copy-paste the book title into Search at UW (the library website) to see if we have the book in our library or to request it from other libraries.

 

What are the major children's book awards?

How do I know if a book is an award winner?

1. Search for a title of a book in NoveList K-8 (link is in this guide and the Databases A-Z page on the library homepage).

2. Click on the book in the search results. There will be a tab labeled "Lists and Articles." The awards it won will be listed at the top.

What are some good books?

1. At the bottom of this page, there are recommended book lists and a collection of book review sites. 

2. Look at the New Book shelf in the library! It's downstairs by the blue chairs right when you walk in. All the newest books are there for a few months before they go to their permanent home in the CMC upstairs.
